What EXPERIENCE DO YOU HAVE?

1

My experience spans weddings, documenting protests like the A21 Walk For Freedom — with work featured in local newspapers — capturing the North East, photographing musical performances and stage preaching, and years of serving on a church media team creating images for social media.

How do I get started?

2

I’ve always taken photographs in one way or another, but around 2016 I made a conscious decision to serve my church as a photographer at Hillsong UK Newcastle. By 2026, many of the moments shared online are ones I’ve captured—and it’s through this journey that I truly learned and developed my craft.

What’s your style?

Equipment: Canon RP with a range of lenses, Canon M200, DJI Mini 4K drone, DJI Osmo Pocket 2 (mostly retired) & Insta 360RS action cam and a Google Pixel 7 pro (as the camera you always have you).

I’m drawn to honest, in-the-moment photography — capturing genuine interaction and natural smiles. Shooting mainly at f/2.8 on a Canon allows me to create a clean, professional look, even in low-lit theatre environments.

When I’m out on a walk—particularly in the Lake District—the setup is much less formal. I’ll usually take my Canon M200 instead of my Canon RP to keep the weight down, especially as I’m often also carrying an action cam and a drone. That’s a lot of kit to have on your back or strapped to your body.

Even so, the Canon M200 is still capable of producing some beautiful images.

My other “styles” include the occasional hiking video and, even less frequently, some drone footage—both of which you can find over on YouTube.

I can’t recall the exact year I began attending church, but I believe it was around 2012 or 2013. At that time, the church was based at the Centre for Life in Newcastle upon Tyne and was known as Newcastle Christian Life Centre (NCLC). It had a reputation locally for being a “Hillsong‑like” church, as it adopted much of Hillsong’s style of music, worship, and preaching.

Eventually, the church relocated to the Westgate Hall on the Westgate Road, on the other side of the city. Not long after the move, we officially joined Hillsong and became Hillsong UK Newcastle.

During this period, I served on several teams, including the host team and coffee team. Over time, however, I found myself drawn to the media team, where I began carrying a camera and capturing photographs for the church.

My Christian identity is a core part of who I am, from attending church on Sundays and serving on a team to doing my best to live as a disciple of Christ. I know I have made—and will make—mistakes on that journey, but all I can do is continue to try.
